Saint Mark Baptist Church was organized as the “Saint Mark Baptist Mission” of Browns Mills, NJ,
in 1971, under the leadership of Rev. Alex Harvey, along with the Moultrie and Dawkins families.
In 1972, the church was recognized and set apart as a regular Missionary Baptist Church by the
Bethany Baptist Association with Tabernacle Baptist Church of Burlington, NJ, serving as the Mother
Church. Worship services were held in private homes, local community churches in the Pemberton Township
area, and the B.M.I.A. Community Center in Browns Mills, until the church moved into the former Browns Mills
United Methodist Church on the corner of Broadway and Trenton Roads.
The original official boards and ministries of our church were:
Deacon/Trustee Board, Chairman Samuel F. Moultrie, Usher Board,
President Jessie Cleveland, Senior Choir, President Mary Eddy,
Church Mother, Ethel Moultrie, Church Clerk, Mckinley James,
First Pastor, Rev. Alex Harvey.
Our Church celebrates, participates and fellowships in many programs, activities in
the community and with various Protestant and Inter-Denominational churches throughout
the state.
God is constantly fulfilling our wants and dreams, while directing us toward the
purpose He has established for St. Mark to fulfill. We continue to Stand on that
“Solid Rock”, Jesus. We Thank God for granting St. Mark these rich and fruitful years.
